The promenade
the promenade
The “Terrace Promenade” is a name that isn’t universally used for this area of Queens Park but anyone who knows the park will realise where it is.
Arguably one of the flattest paths in the park, the Promenade overlooks the fountain and children’s playground and, being the highest point in the park, it affords great views over parts of the Bolton landscape.
Benches are placed along the Promenade behind which stand a number of stone statues of which more can be read here.Â
Just behind the Promenade, and up the stone steps, is the World Garden which sits on the site of the old Greenhouse. Recently, the Friends of Queens Park, along with other volunteers, created a beautiful sensory garden with a variety of fragrant plants and shrubs.
At the western side of the Promenade are stone steps which lead to the large lake and ampitheatre area whilst the east of the Promenade is a curved stone wall, affectionately known as, the Pie Crust, a location which featured in the 1969 movie “Spring and Port Wine”.
