Summer at Queens Park is “high season”. The park is at it’s busiest especially when the temperatures are warm and the sun is out.
Office workers are drawn to the relative peace of the park compared to the town centre. Local residents, who may not have an outside garden, can enjoy the beauty and expanse of nature on their doorstep and families and children flock to the playground with cold drinks and ice cream being sold at the nearby cafe.
At this time of the year, Queens Park is in all her glory.
Everything seems to be in bloom and in early summer the aged and mature rhododendron trees put on a colourful display of pinks, oranges, reds and purples.
Wild garlic can be smelt in the air as you walk around the park and the Sunken Garden is filled with bedding plants and becomes a popular spot to sit on one of the benches and just listen to the birds and the wind.
People of all ages and from all sections of the community use the park at this time of year, whether a group of friends are playing badminton on one of the fields or cricket or even an informal walking group organised by friends choosing to use the park as a free tool to keep fit and healthy.
