RIVERSIDE WALKS

RIVERSIDE WALKS

The river Croal runs straight through the southern tip of Queens Park and offers a nature trail from Spa Road car park all the way along to Chorley Street and the back of Bolton Lads and Girls Club.

The trail provides a completely different vibe to the rest of the park as the riverside trail is shaded and lush with greenery. On dry days, the river Croal is just a low background sound whilst you walk but when there’s been heavy rain then the river becomes much more animated and a couple of small waterfalls (if you can call them that) are testament to this.

Along the way are a few wood carvings which you may spot including a little person’s house and a carved wooden book.

There are four bridges that cross the river with the most notable being Dobson Bridge.

This sadly fell into a state of disrepair some years ago but was thankfully fully restored to it’s Victorian splendour thanks to a lottery grant.

Close to Dobson Bridge are also some of Queens Park’s smaller lakes which used to be very popular for anglers.
